JACKET
This one-piece jacket pattern uses a single panel of mohair ombre fabric, shaded left to right from charcoal to pale gray. The pattern shows how the ombre is used for maximum effect with minimum construction. The selvedge is maintained on the sleeves in lieu of a regular hem, and tabs are simply folded over to create pockets.

TUBULAR "KAIN SARONG
The design and concept of this sarong pattern shows how Teng uses seams both as decorative elements and to hold the pieces of fabric together to form a tube. One pattern is cut on the straight grain, parallel to the selvedge, while the other is flipped so the grain lines are perpendicular, thereby emphasizing the linen raffia effect. Parts of the selvedge are kept on the half of the hem and on one side of the straight seam.

KIMONO COAT AND BELT
Teng's pattern for a frugal, one-size-fits-all kimono coat and belt (see opposite page) maximizes the use of a single fabric panel including all selvedges, with waste limited to the shaded cutout for the neck. As an additional energy-and time-saving bonus, the source textiles can be stacked and cut simultaneously, greatly streamlining production.
